In the spirit of gratitude and recognition, we reflect on the significance of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, first established by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 through Proclamation 5184. This day is a solemn reminder of the critical role military spouses play in the strength and resilience of our service members.

As we observe this day on May 10, 2024, it is a call to action for each of us to acknowledge and appreciate the silent sacrifices made by military spouses. Their unwavering commitment and determination are the glue that holds military families together, especially during times when the nation calls upon its service members.

It is a day to do more than just say “Thank you for your service” to our veterans and active service members. It’s a day to extend that gratitude to the spouses who, too, serve in their own capacity. Reach out, offer support, or simply lend a listening ear to a military spouse. Your gesture of kindness is a powerful acknowledgment of their sacrifice.

As we honor our service members, let us also extend our deepest thanks to the spouses and partners who stand beside them. Their support is the foundation upon which our Armed Forces stand strong.
